Isaiah 9:6 Part 2

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders, And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Today I would like for us to continue to look at the names the prophet used to describe the Messiah. Today we will look at the name Mighty God. The Hebrew word for mighty is gibbor which means powerful, champion, chief, giant. Christ Jesus was a powerful man. A leader, a champion of the people. How can we tap in to some of the power that Christ has? Prayer. Prayerless lives are powerless lives. Having a prayer time and a time of study in God’s word is essential. There is so much might and power in the word of God for our lives. I know for myself if I miss my quiet time with God, it shows. I don’t have His power working in me and I try and do things on my own might, which many times leads to trouble. There are two Greek words used in the New Testament for the power of Christ ischus and dunamis. The word ischus means power strength or might. The Word dunamis means power, especially achieving power. To sum up those two words ischus means to posses power and dunamis is power that is in action or achieved, it is acted upon. When Christ healed the sick He showed both types of power, the possession of and achieving power. The word might and power also indicates that there is strength. We sing a song that says there is strength in the name of the Lord, there is power in the name of the Lord, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. We need to be strengthened in our life. We need to rely on the power of God for our lives. Without Him what can we accomplish by our own strength? He comes in power when we call on His name. There is so much going on in our world today. Now more than ever we need God and His incomparably great power for us who believe. If you are hurting today, call on Him, if you are depressed, financially broken, confused, weak ask the most Mighty One to help you. God is a gentleman. He won’t force Himself on you. He is waiting to come in power when you call on His name. “My power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Ephesians 6:10
